für den 8. dezember zaubere ich eine protestsong von crosby, stills, nash & young aus dem hut, gespielt 1989 von neil young in der grossen freiheit 36 in hamburg. es ist das jahr, der deutschen wiedervereinigung und des tian’anmen-massaker: das chinesische militär schlägt einen protest, der sich aus einer studentischen demokratiebewegung entwickelt hat, gewaltsam nieder. hunderte tote, tausende verletzte. die bilder bewegen auch fernseher in europa. die chinesische geschichtschreibung zensiert und tötet tank man. von ihm redet neil young vor dem song, als ein fan «like a hurricane» wünscht. etwas genervt führt neil young aus, dass tank man diesen song nicht gekannt habe und er ihn drum auch nicht spiele. stattdessen spielt er als drittletzten song des abends «ohio», das die kent state shootings vom 4. mai 1970 thematisiert: dort hat die nationalgarde 4 studierende erschossen und neun weitere schwer verletzt während eines unbewaffneten protests gegen den vietnamkrieg. die studioversion von «ohio» wurde am 21. mai 1970 aufgenommen, nur 17 tage nach dem vorfall… neil young, ich mag ihn, er blieb derselbe und seine musik zeitbezogen: 2015 veröffentlichte er mit lukas nelson & promise of the real ein konzeptalbum, den gentech-konzern monsanto kritisiert. buchtipp.

for december 8th, i conjure up a protest song by crosby, stills, nash & young, performed by neil young in 1989 at grosse freiheit 36 in hamburg. it is the year of the german reunification and the tian'anmen massacre: the chinese military violently crushes a protest that has developed from a student democracy movement. hundreds dead, thousands injured. the images also move television sets in europe. chinese history censors and kills tank man. neil young talks about him before the song when a fan wishes «like a hurricane». somewhat annoyed, neil young explains that tank man didn't know this song and that's why he doesn't play it. instead, he plays «ohio« as third to last song of the evening, which deals with the kent state shootings of may 4th 1970: there, the national guard shot four students and seriously injured nine others during an unarmed protest against the vietnam war. the studio version of «ohio» was recorded on may 21, 1970, only 17 days after the incident... neil young, i like him, he stayed the same and his music time-related: in 2015 he released a concept album with lukas nelson & promise of the real, criticizing the genetic engineering company monsanto. book tip.
