XXV. catalina: sailing through the tides of our time (live)
aber warte, da ist noch mehr: wie gwannet gibt es nach 24 türchen von anderen ein 25. eigenes. ein weihn8tsgeschenk. heuer bereits zum dritten mal in folge was von catalina. im herbst 2022 haben wir im studio 6 songs aufgenommen, diese als 23-minütige ep mit dem titel 23′ am 23. juni 2023 veröffentlicht, seither einen memorystick statt einer platte getauft und konzerte gespielt. das nächste – kum au! – findet statt am donnerstag, 25. jänner 2024 im atlantis basel im vorprogramm von reto burrell – den ich seit vielen jahre kenne, mag, gerne hör und auch schon für den adventlichen musikalender gecovert hab. | und natürlich vergrösserst sich gleichzeitig das liedgut von catalina auch stetig. einer der neueren song, der mir sehr am herzen liegt ist «sailing through the tides of our time». die akkorde für den refrain hatte ich schon länger und die idee, einen rocksong zur schreiben, der direkt mit dem refrain anfängt auch… dann war ich im sommer spontan 12 tage im spital, wurde am 21. juni zur sommersonnenwende entlassen und konnte the winery dogs 2 tage später im komplex 457 in züri doch noch erleben. das war der letzte funken inspiration, den es brauchte um die noch fehlenden teile der musik und den text fertig zu schreiben. tada, «sailing through the tides of our time» war da! es ist einer über die herausforderungen und das potential unserer zeit. bisher haben wir den song erst ein einziges mal live gespielt: die urraufführung fand am 13. november in der 8bar in basel statt. diese geburt haben wir unprofessionell aufgenommen und diese live version bildet den abschluss des diesjährigen forschens mit dem adventlichen musikalenders. dankä fürs minand reisen mit diesesem zeitraumschiff. jetzt tauch ich ein in die rauhnächte und wir sehen uns auf der anderen seite, im nächsten jahr. als soundtrack für den zwischenraum empfehle ich den ganzen adventlichen musikalender als nur am anfang moderierte episode meiner themenzentrierten musiksammlung auf kanal k, als mp3s zum abelade oder näherungsweise als playlist. und wenn’s dich gwundret, welche tracks auf den 14 (!) anderen bisherigen adventlichen musikalendern zu hören sind, lies gerne hier weiter. sei sicher auf deinen wegen bis wir uns wieder sehen.

but wait, there's more: as usual, after 24 doors from others, there's a 25th of my own. a christmas present. this year, for the third time in a row, something from catalina. in the fall of 2022, we recorded 6 songs in the studio, released them as a 23-minute ep entitled 23′ on june 23, 2023, have since christened a memory stick instead of a record and played concerts. the next one – come to see us! – will take place on thursday, january 25th at atlantis basel in support of reto burrell – who i have known, liked and enjoyed listening to for many years and have already covered for the musical advent calendar. | and of course catalina's body of song is constantly growing at the same time. one of the newer songs that is very close to my heart is «sailing through the tides of our time». i've had the chords for the chorus for a while and the idea of writing a rock song that starts directly with the refrain too... then summer came and i spontaneously spent 12 days in hospital. i left again on the days of summer solsistice on june 21st and was able to experience the winery dogs 2 days later at komplex 457 in zurich. that was the last spark of inspiration i needed to finish writing the missing parts of the music and the lyrics. tada, «sailing through the tides of our time» was there! it's a song about the challenges and the potential of our time. so far we've only played the song live once: the world premiere took place on november 13th at 8bar in basel. we recorded this birth unprofessionally and this live version forms the conclusion of this year's exploration with the musical advent calendar. thank you for traveling with this time and spaceship. now i'll dive into the rauhnächte and we will see each other on the other side, next year. as a soundtrack for the space in between, i recommend the whole musical advent calendar as an almost chatter and banter free episode of my theme-centered music collection on kanal k, as mp3s to download or as an approximate playlist. and if you're curious about which tracks can be heard on the 14 (!) other musical advent calendars so far, please read on here. be safe on all your ways until we meet again.
