XXIV. queen: liar (live)
für den heiligabend reisen wir zurück ins jahr 1975. queen – eine meiner frühen grosse lieben – spielen am 24. dezember im hammersmith odeon in london. einen monat vor dem konzert haben sie das fantastische album a night at the opera veröffentllicht. das in bild und ton festgehaltene weihnachtskonzert in ihrer heimatstad, das auch medleys eigener songs und covers von alten rock ‘n’ roll nummern beinhaltet, zeigt was queen mit freddie mercury für eine grandiose live band waren. mensch, war ich traurig, als freddie am 24. november 1991 starb und mensch, hab ich das freddie mercury tribute konzert aus dem wembley stadion auf damals noch drs3 gefeiert, als sie es am 20. april 1992 live übertragen haben. auf kassette aufgenommen hab ichs und nun viele jahre später steht sie immer noch in meiner sammlung. mhmm. «liar» war die zweite single, die queen je veröffentlicht haben und wohnt auf dem ersten, selbstbetitelten album von 1973. der song ist eine perle des frühwerks, der schon ganz viel von der späteren experimentierfreudigkeit im studio beinhaltet. so long, freddie, ich vermisse dich und hätte dich gerne mal live erlebt.

for christmas eve we travel back to 1975. queen – one of my early great loves – are playing at the hammersmith odeon in london on december 24th. a month before the concert they released the fantastic album a night at the opera. the christmas concert in their home town, captured in sound and vision, which also includes medleys of their own songs and covers of old rock 'n' roll numbers, shows what a great live band queen were with freddie mercury. man, i was sad when freddie died on november 24th, 1991and man, did i celebrate the freddie mercury tribute concert from wembley stadium on what was then still drs3 when they broadcast it live on april 20th, 1992. i recorded it on cassette and now many years later it's still in my collection. mhmm. «liar» was the second single that queen ever released and is on the first, self-titled album from 1973. the song is a pearl of the early work, which already contains a lot of the later love for experimentation in the studio. so long, freddie, i miss you and would have loved to see you live.
